Leadership; It Starts with Me

As leaders of our group, we spend so much of our time focusing on others that we tend to neglect ourselves. In this presentation, we will discuss how our leadership must include leading ourselves first. We will discuss how life gets in the way, but most importantly how we can fix ourselves.

• Understanding the role of stress.
• In order to lead effectively, the Heart and the Mind must be in balance.

• A 21 Day fix to a better you.

Dave grew up in a sleepy little town called Northfield Center Ohio. Upon graduation from Nordonia High School Dave was approached by the Fire Chief and asked to Join the Northfield Center Fire Department. At 18 years old, Dave started to see dead people. At the old age of 23, Dave was hired by the South Euclid Police Department. Dave was soon a Field Training Officer and developed the Training Program still in use by the Department today. After 9 ½ years, Dave was reassigned to the Detective Bureau where he spent the remainder of his career. Dave says you may have seen him on the Oxygen Network’s show “Killer Couples”, where one of Dave homicide cases was featured. Dave is not related to anybody you may have seen in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” In addition to being a Hostage Negotiator, Dave believed that he worked for the victims, including the dead who had no voice of their own. Dave retired from the South Euclid Police Department in 2017, after 30 years of service.
In his spare time, Dave spent 21 years as an Adult Volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America in the Greater Cleveland Council, Now the Lake Erie Council. During that time Dave served as District Chairman for 4 years and assembled a team to serve nearly 1200 youth and adults. What you may not know, is that Dave spent 6 years playing the role of Ebenezer Scrooge in the Cuyahoga Heights Schools Community Theater.
Dave took his first leadership course in 2003 and began teaching leadership courses in 2006. In 2018 Dave decided to start his own company Leadership By Design, whose focus is to bring Leadership study to small businesses. Dave believes that no matter the size of the organization, everyone deserves to have a trained leader.
